Yu Bai (she/her, 1990, lives in Berlin) works as a researcher, teacher and performer between movement and space. Her works manifest as reconfigurations of body, space, and technology, informed by her background in new media, contemporary dance, and the visual arts within the framework of conceptual art practice.
Otherness or the characteristics of the Other (anyone whose identity has been pushed to the margins) is a recurring theme of her work. By placing importance on the physical experience and the process of the creation, her performances are often site-specific, guided by principles of the participatory queer approach to challenge heteronormativity.
Having a background in the visual arts, Yu graduated from Utrecht University with a B.A. in culture studies. By researching dance, theater, and contemporary art in relation to technology, she later received her M.A. in new media and digital culture from Utrecht University.
