Yu Bai (she/her, lives in Berlin) works as a choreographer, visual artist and performer between movement and space.

She develops performance in relation to cultural theory and queer studies. Her artistic practice fundamentally deals with the struggle of power in the creation of modern disciplines, with their principles of order and control. Often, her work manifests as the reconfigurations of body, space, and technology, informed by her background in dance, visual arts and new media.

Otherness or the characteristics of the Other (anyone whose identity has been pushed to the margins) is a recurring theme of her work. By placing importance on the physical experience, environment and the process of the creation, her performances are often site-specific, guided by principles of the queer approach to challenge heteronormativity.

Having a background in the visual arts, Yu graduated from Utrecht University with a B.A. in culture studies. By researching dance, theater, and contemporary art in relation to technology, she later received her M.A. in new media and digital culture from Utrecht University.
